E1L PILABK course
Applicants for personal licences must complete an accredited training course prior to applying for a licence. Modules undertaken will vary on the type of licence being applied for, prior experience, and the species to be included.
Those applying for new category A licences (minor procedures without anaesthesia) must complete modules E1, L, PILA and PILK. Note that PILA is species specific and must be completed for all species that are to be applied for.
Applicants for category B licences (minor procedures under brief anaesthesia) will need to complete module PILB as well.
New establishment licence holders are required to undertake modules E1 and L.
Experienced researchers from overseas will usually be required to complete modules E1 and L but may be able to request exemption from the other training requirements - this should be discussed with The Home Office (ASRU).
